View Full Version : Marx Manga Call to Arms!

As many of you may know, I've been working to get the Das Kapital Manga translated into English because I think it could serve as a powerful tool to introduce people to Marxism. I've imported a bunch of manga from Japan, pulled off the spine, and scanned them, but now I've hit some snags. The website I'm going to ultimately post it on is Managa Helpers which is a community that aids in translation, corrections, and hosting. However, the scans I commisioned are too high of quality. So right now what I immediately need is some enterprising soul to try and reduce all three chapters to a total of about 300 megs. If you could do that and just repost it on megaupload or a similar site, I'd be very appreciative.

Also, if you have Japanese translation or touchup skills then please join our translation group and lend a hand. If you're interested in the manga go ahead and join us, we'll use the group to distribute new information.

I'll edit this post once the 3rd chapter is uploaded.

Thank you. That's exactly right. Can you zip the entire thing into one zip (not rar) folder and put it on mega upload? If you can do it by tomorrow, I'll try and have it up for you by the evening. Good job, thanks for your help. This is exactly what we need.

Aren't the publishers going to do an English version?

The simple answer seems to be no. I haven't seen anything at all that seems likely that east press will be translating this into any market since they haven't do so with any other of the manga as far as I can tell. Yet, even if they were, does it matter? We should start getting this out to people as quickly as we can since it will be able to serve as a good introduction. If hard copies became available in English, then it might be worth buying them to hand out to individuals. As it stands now, I bought 5 copies already and that seems likely to be more money than they would have made from the American market otherwise.

I'd love to give you personal credit, or would you prefer to be anonymous? Also, feel free to join the translation project itself, if you're so inclined. I appreciate your help immensely. I hope we can move forward quickly on this so we can get this into the hands of the people.

But I must admit that this style of drawing really disappoints me...

It's got a more no nonsense style, but I think it wants to be as accessible as possible. In that case, excessive flourishes would be counter productive.

I'll post it on here of course, but feel free to join our group on Manga Helpers, it will send you PMs every time we have some sort of update. Thanks for your support, raise your voice also deserves a lion's share of the credit as well for shrinking the RAWS down to a manageable size. I recommend you thank him on his post.

Cool.

How do I join the group?

I'm not a manga maniac I just think this sounds like a really good idea. It's selling like wildfire in Japan too.

Basically sign up for the site, then go to revolutionary translations and hit the subscribe to all and then just add it to your favorites. It it's too much of pain though, you can be sure I'll keep everyone posted on this thread and probably in my sig.

The illustrated books "Marx For Beginners" aka "Introducing Marx", "Das Kapital For Beginners" aka "Introducing Das Kapital" and others in the series by Rius seem more fitting to the U.S. and other English-speaking countries. You can often find copies of these books at very low prices.
