Look at this.
Now, look at the situation in the Middle East. Not only does the conflict in Palestine threaten to escalate, with Israel resuming bombings, and threatening 'disproportionate force', in Afghanistan, where Obama has been planning to deploy more troops to, the Taliban promises 'more bloodshed'. Now, it's obvious that this current financial crisis signals the end of the U.S. hegemony- so what do you think will be the domestic reaction to all this? Don't you think we're going to see a deep fissure form between the significant muslim minority (and those progressive enough to tolerate islam) in most western nations, and these hardliners obsessed with 'terrorism' (and the anti-immigrant fascist crowd)?

Don't jump to conclusions, really.

It all depends really. As we saw in the UK and to a lesser extent in the netherlands where I'm from, during the Israeli attacks on gaza muslim and non-muslim came together to oppose this blatant act of agression. These kinds of things can set precedents, and tie the progressive parts of the population (whether muslim or non-muslim) together in action, and aside from this also cut from underneath the plans of those on the islamic side trying to breed hatred (just saying this just before another shit-storm breaks loose on this forum about how reactionary islam is).
But yes, there will be a rise of the hard right and with it blatant right-wing extremism, but this probably will go hand in hand with a rise of the radical left (and if we play our cards right we'll outnumber the fascist bastards by a great deal).

I'm okay I'm a long, long way away in New Zealand.
If you are in the northern hemisphere then I would be filling my lead lined bunker with guns, drugs, canned food and pornography (girls require food and oxygen).

yes we are definitely going to see a few new wars.
i expect Obama to start a ground war in pakistan and then there is the long expected strike on iran that is going to happen sooner rather then later.
we all know that war is a popular method to distract the population but if attempted now it might backfire seeing how angry the people are over the current wars already.

It's a very "interesting" time with many dangerous conflicts which could lead to even more dangerous situations. It remindes me on the time before WWII with all it's little conflicts and powerhungry/stupid politicians who can't wait to start the next war.
