I found a decently priced teacher and it feels like my calling to flounce around a stage like a poof but I'm tone-stone-deaf and there's only so much that acting can do.

Shit make sure you know the question is whether or not to take lessons?

Yes, then appear on X factor and sell your soul to the capitalist music machine.

Mmm if you didnt want to learn for work, i would suggest to learn on your own.
But since your area of expertise requires it yeah, go to that teacher.

(Singing is fun and addictive btw). Oh and get a guitar too, it helps like the vanguard.

Poof?

I can rightly use that word being gay, and I don't have an issue with anyone else using it. It's not like saying poof'll morph you into Jim Davidson!

I have a guitar (3). I've been playing since I was 11. I certainly have the talent for flouncing around a stage like a poof.

And why do I have to vote to see the results :cursing: The new forum is crap compared to the last.

If you feel like it and think it is fun, then just go ahead and do it. If the lessons aren't too expensive, of course.

And why do I have to vote to see the results
That's something I've been asking myself, too.

Coincidentally where I come from poof also refers to those piece of furniture used to put your legs on leg-rests.

I'm tone-stone-deaf and there's only so much that acting can do.You either have a good singing voice or you don't, all the teachers in the world won't change that. If you can sing and do want to take to the stage then by all means refine your talent with lessons. If not... well you can't polish shit

Makes me wish I had been born in England, I'd have preferred poof to the slurs used by the floridian rednecks I lived around :D

It sounds cute compared to queer, faggot, etc

I think everyone should at least explore the possibilities of artistic talent. If you have the drive to do it then do it. Singing is no walk in the park though. It is a very physical art. It takes lung power, the proper posture, breath control (do you smoke?), focus, and time. Learning to hold a note and matching pitch is difficult and can be done. There are tricks you can learn to be able to hear yourself while you sing (even if you are tone deaf). If there are community choir opportunities I would personally choose that over paying a vocal coach (voice teachers often will make you sound the way they think you should sound as a pop soloist rather than learning music theory properly while matching pitch in a group and learning other people's parts as well as your own). I have been singing since I was 12 (taught myself at age four...years later I am still learning new techniques). I have been heavily involved in community choirs, was the top vocalist in my region (when I was in high school) and have also had many vocal coaches. I am a metal vocalist as well as jazz and choral. There are so many things you will learn to do with the instrument that is your voice. I wish you the best of luck. Can't wait to hear the progress!:hammersickle: -rosie

Do it, go on X Factor and as your audition do Nazi Punks Fuck Off by the Dead Kennedys, with no backing and staying faithful to the original.
