View Full Version : Workers looking busy to keep jobs as unemployment rises

Officially unemployment is at 7.2%, though it is probably over ten, and appears to be rising. Jobs are being cut and workers have tough choices to make- have their hours cut to keep their jobs, work multiple part-time jobs, etc.

Some workers are practicing the fine art of "looking busy" (http://www.iht.com/articles/2009/01/25/america/time.1-415114.php) so give bosses the impression they are needed.

While a understandable practice in order to keep a job, it is no real solution. It is just another reason why we need to organize for worker control.

But it does raise a interesting point; there are a number of jobs that are not only unproductive in the Marxist sense, but not even needed for a company to make profits. What does these workers do with so little leverage?

Using the 1980 criteria it's 17.5%.

Its just impossible to calculate the exact or approx value. There are many peoples unemployed and suffering from many problems. And as you have said that some peoples are engaged in fine arts its true and good.

Source? I very much doubt that, unless you are including people who aren't looking for work and stay at home parents.

considering they stop counting people who's unemployment has run out its very possible. they also dont count young people who havent had jobs before and looking for work.
