Officially unemployment is at 7.2%, though it is probably over ten, and appears to be rising. Jobs are being cut and workers have tough choices to make- have their hours cut to keep their jobs, work multiple part-time jobs, etc.
Some workers are practicing the fine art of "looking busy" (http://www.iht.com/articles/2009/01/25/america/time.1-415114.php) so give bosses the impression they are needed.
While a understandable practice in order to keep a job, it is no real solution. It is just another reason why we need to organize for worker control.
But it does raise a interesting point; there are a number of jobs that are not only unproductive in the Marxist sense, but not even needed for a company to make profits. What does these workers do with so little leverage?
