May 17th is approaching!

We Are Meeting Against Homophobia!

Kaos Gay and Lesbian Cultural Research and Solidarity Association has
organized the International Anti-Homophobia Meeting within the week of May
17, in the capital city of Turkey, Ankara, for three years.

Anti-Homophobia Meeting was first held as a four-day hall event in 2006. In
2007, together with the central events, "Campus Meetings Against Homophobia"
were realized in the three biggest university campuses of Ankara.

-There is little time left for the 4th meeting!-

This year, the meeting will take place from May 1st, International Workers'
Day, to May 17th, International Day Against Homophobia. There will be
meetings against homophobia in Ýzmir (Eagean Region), in Ýstanbul (Marmara
Region), in Eskiþehir (Middle Anatolian Region), in Diyarbakýr (Southeast
Anatolian Region) and in Van (East Anatolian Region) as well.

May 17th - International Day Against Homophobia, addressing the day on which
the World Health Organization crossed out homosexuality from the list of
mental disorders, is the day for standing and acting against all physical,
moral and symbolic types of violence targeting non-heterosexual identities
and orientations. One of the points of this day is being in coordination
with all initiatives struggling for the equality of humankind, inspiring and
supporting each other.

KAOS GL has been organizing social, cultural, and academic activities for
the enhancement of human rights of LGBT individuals and fighting against
discrimination against LGBT people for more than ten years.

It is a bare fact that LGBT individuals are faced with homophobic attitudes
and behaviors in every aspect of their lives and they are exposed to
discrimination only because of their sexual orientation. We underline the
fact that homophobia is not the problem of LGBT people exclusively; it is
also a problem of heterosexual women and men.

Homophobic attitudes and behaviors together with discrimination against LGBT
individuals in social, political, cultural and academic spheres have been
discussed with the participation of experts, authors, artists, academics,
politicians and journalists from inside and outside of Turkey.

We are looking forward to your contribution and suggestions about the
organization of International Anti-Homophobia Meeting, which has been one of
the important steps for the development of freedom of expression and
organization rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender community, in all
stages.

We are organizing a demonstration against homophobia in the capital city of
Turkey, Ankara, on May 17th.

Let's march against homophobia in Ankara, on May 17th !
