Leon Trotsky. Originally a supporter of the Mensheviks, he became a Bolshevik immediately prior to the Bolshevik revolution. He would become a leading figure of the Left Opposition against the rise of Stalin after Lenin's death, but would fail and eventually be assassinated in Mexico on Stalin's orders. His most famous writings include Permanent Revolution and Results and Prospects, Platform of the Joint Opposition, The Russian Revolution Betrayed, The Stalin School of Falsification, and Terrorism and Communism.
